The Emperor

The Emperor, in Black and White: authoritarian father figures and the wounds they carry.

While dreaming up the image for this particular card, I didn’t have to dig to deep before “Good King Henry” came to mind.

The process of finding the image was simple but profound:

Play music or ambient sound that proffered a sense of the chosen card. (In this case a thunder storm).

Recline in my chair.

Journey to summon the image.

Hurriedly scribble it down.

Render the scribble as a proper pencil drawing.

Ink it up.

Give it to Steve for colour.

That’s how it kind of went for most of the deck. Anyway… meet The Emperor, in black and white.

Rex
